Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of democracy on human development through the role of globalization in 120 developing countries over the period 1990-2017. The objective of this study is twofold, i.e. the first step is to examine the direct impact of democracy on human development. The second step is to analyze the role of globalization in the relationship of democracy and human development. To measure human development, the present study uses HDI computed by UNDP. For capturing the role of globalization, KOF index of globalization and all of its three dimensions, namely political, economic and social globalization have been incorporated in this study. Results reveal that the direct impact of democracy is positive on human development. The principle finding of the study is that globalization contributes positively in the relationship of democracy and human development. Results also reveal that among the three dimensions of globalization, social globalization contributes more in improving the impact of democracy on human development.
